Contributor Day Glossary

New to contributing and unsure of some of the terms being used? The WordCamp Europe team has produced a glossary to help you get started.

This should help to answer many of the questions we have received about Contributor Day, and we look forward to you joining us for the event on 20 June 2019 in Berlin.

Contributor – A registered attendee of Contributor Day who can join one or more teams throughout the day and use skills to help with tasks and goals of that team.

Onboarding – The process of bringing new Contributors onto a team. For all teams, the first steps are the same: Register at WordPress.org, register at the official WordPress Slack and join the team’s Slack channel. The next steps vary, as each team has its own workflows and tools for managing tasks, such as Trello, Google Drive, GitHub, Trac etc. Onboarding is considered complete when a new Contributor is acquainted with the entire team workflow and feels fully enabled to contribute.

OrganiserA volunteer who helped organise Contributor Day, from choosing the venue, arranging food and drinks to coordinating teams and Team Leads.

Team – A group of Contributors with at least one Team Lead, typically referred to as a “Make Team” at Contributor Day. WordPress is a project built by many teams, and each will have a dedicated table or a room at the WordCamp Europe Contributor Day.

Team or Table Lead – An active Contributor at make.wordpress.org with significant knowledge and experience working on tasks for their team who can onboard, guide and help contributors. On Contributor Day, Team Leads present aims and tasks for their team at the start and recap what was accomplished at the end.

Volunteer – A person who applied to help and was accepted for the role by Organisers to ensure that Contributor Day at a WordCamp runs smoothly. Organisers, Volunteers and Contributors all work together. At Contributor Day, volunteers typically greet attendees at registration desks and issue badges.
